Built in 1965 by the Ministry of Culture, the SCH was slated for renovation in 1996 with the Singapore Chinese Orchestra Co Ltd designated as its new end-user. This historical building was carefully converted and updated to a full orchestral concert hall with a new capacity of 900 seats, enlarged stage and extended back stage facilities with new rehearsal rooms.
